Apr 16, 2018Shipman, Virginia, departed this life on Thursday, April 12, 2018, at the University of Virginia Medical Center after a brief illness. Born on March 9, 1946, in Nelson County, he was preceded in death by his parents, Alease and Dennis Wheeler, Sr., as well as a brother, Paul Wheeler and former wife, Charlene B. Wheeler. Dennis was a member of Montreal Baptist Church. He attended Nelson Memorial High and was employed by Ferguson's Concrete Services. Dennis loved fishing, watching tv - especially John Wayne movies, cooking, and doing odds and ends projects. Back in the day, Dennis played baseball during the annual summer games and could hit that ball way out in the field and had the speed of a cheetah. Dennis leaves to cherish his memories, a son, Rodney Wheeler and his wife, Sheryl; two grandchildren, Londen Wheeler and Vivica Wheeler, all of of Wylie, Texas; a sister, Sonora MacAttram; niece, Tanya MacAttram; nephew, Sean MacAttram, all of Laurel, Maryland; a longtime special friend, Cynthia Johnson of Shipman; along with two of his oldest surviving cousins who are like his aunts, Mrs. Julia Brown and Mrs. Pearly Mae Turner, two special cousins Linda Turner and Peggy Turner - all of Shipman; and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, April 15, 2018, 2 p.m. at Montreal Baptist Church, located in Shipman, Va., with Pastor James Rose, eulogist. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
